The varsity field hockey team defeated Webster Groves 4-0 Thursday night in the first varsity team sport to play on the new turf.

Seniors Suegol Sadri, Sarah Jacober and Kirsten Van Rens scored three quick goals against Webster, and Maggie Tovar, sophomore, scored the final goal.

“I think we played very well for our first home game and everyone really worked hard,” team captain Gabi Blosser, senior, said. “After we scored a few goals, we had a lot of momentum going for us and we didn’t let down until the game was over. I am really proud of how we played.”

The Mustangs had their hands full with Statesmen Hannah Luckes, sophomore, but the Mustang defense held strong and helped create scoring options on the offensive end of the field.

“The game against Webster Groves was a good team win because we had four different goal scorers and kept the shut out,” Nina Walters, varsity field hockey coach, said. “Everyone played a big part in helping getting the first win on the new turf. It was a great way to start off the season at home.”
