The MHS boys basketball squad tipped off against the (0-15) Northwest Lions last Tuesday, Jan. 20.

After a 14-point loss at home to rival Lafayette last Friday, the Mustangs looked to gain confidence against the win-less Lions.

With 6-minutes left to go in the first quarter, MHS led the Lions on an 8-0 run.

The Mustangs never let go of the lead.

As the final buzzer sounded and the score of 63-30 quickly diminished from the scoreboard, the MHS student section, clad in “prep night” gear, practiced their traditional “rollercoaster” cheer before exciting the gymnasium.

Every player on MHS’ roster contributed to the team’s 33-point rout of Northwest, shooting 50-percent from the field and 77.8-percent from the free-throw line.

Jason Powers, junior, led the team with 12-points and shot 50% from behind the arc.

The Mustangs (5-8) head into tomorrow’s “pink out” game against the Lindbergh Flyers (7-8) who are coming off a 13-point win over Northwest.
