A throng of administrators crept into the Library with flowers and balloons yesterday, Monday, Feb. 23. They surprised Brittany Fore, language arts teacher, and her ALARP I class with the announcement that she had won MHS’s Teacher of the Year Award.

“I was really surprised,” Fore said. “There are a lot of fantastic teachers at our school and I just felt really honored to be nominated by students.”

The Award was chosen based on teacher votes on a list of teachers nominated by students and staff in the building.

“I think most of the teachers in this school love what they do, and we don’t expect recognition for our actions,” Fore said. “It’s so rewarding to hear from students  how we impact their lives because I know my students learn the content, but I want to know if I’m making a difference.”

Fore said she’s the teacher she is today because of the people she’s been able to work with and mentors she’s had along the way. She will now apply for the district Teacher of Year Award, writing two essays and sending in a resume.
