Shu Han, junior, walked into his ACT classroom for the first time not knowing what to expect. Having not prepared for it, he had no idea how he would score. When he received his score a few weeks ago, he found out he scored a 36.

“I did not expect to get a 36 because I didn’t prepare for it at all,” Han said.

Han said the ACT’s most challenging parts are the writing portion and the fact that it is extremely long.

“Timed essays are very difficult,” Han said.

Han does not know what he is going to study in college, but he does want to look at USC, UCLA, NYU, Duke, and Stanford.

“I want to move either east or west and I hope to get a PhD like my dad,” Han said.

Han has also excelled in the academics, taking the most challenging courses MHS has to offer. Already, Han has completed all the math courses available. In addition, he is also enrolled in five AP classes this year including AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Government, AP Language Arts, and AP Statistics.

To add onto his impressive academic records, Han also participate in a handful of clubs, including the Marquette Messenger as the ad manager.

“I am in clubs because they look good on college resumes, and it is a nice way to give back to the community. NHS allows me to get volunteer hours and Mu Alpha Theta lets me help other students with math,” Han said.

Han does not know exactly what classes he plans on taking his senior year, but he hopes to take AP Advanced Physics and French 5.

His parents are extremely proud of him, but do not push him at all according to Han.

“I am happy I got a perfect score, I haven’t really celebrated though,” Han said, “I would just try and find what sections you need the most help in and really focus on those before you take the actual test,” Han said.
