Speech and Debate season just starting up

While fall sports are well underway, Speech and Debate’s season is just starting up.

“It’s complete luck which side you actually debate, which is why it’s such a good test of speaking and persuasive skills,” Kane said.

Pro and con sides are not pre-determined; students have to be prepared to argue a side, despite their own personal feelings.

Debates during the regular season are much more structured, with more time to prepare and more complicated topics.

Megan Constantinides, sophomore, is new to Speech and Debate this year, and she’s eager for the season to start.

“I’m excited for this first tournament because all of my friends who did it last year always told me about how much fun it was, and now I can experience it for myself,” Constantinides said. “Everyone on Debate is really nice, and it looks really good on college applications, so I’m really glad I joined.”
