This time of year is known for standardized testing and not to mention the infamous AP test.  These last few months of the school year can be exhausting but to help students make it through the end of the year,  the Daniel Boone branch of the St. Louis county library has started a homework success series in order to teach students homework and testing strategies.

Susan Wilson, circulation assistant at Daniel Boone, said she noticed that many students are in need of test taking strategies and overall focus so she co-founded the homework success program to give students the help they need.

“We want to really be clear to people that this is really homework help.  It’s set up to have students bring in anything they’re working on for the week, or study for test, projects, help with organizing themselves for the week, we’ll hopefully be able to give these students some strategies ,” Wilson said.

The sessions are capped at fifteen students and students can sign up online or through the library, however this help series is only offered at the Daniel Boone branch.

Wilson’s goal is to equip the students with the tools they need for this heavy test taking season.  She hopes that with a little assistance, students will be able to greatly improve their test taking habits as well as study habits.

“Maybe they just need a place to come in and help them organize their homework and make sure they get it completed,” Wilson said.

Although this help session is not fine-tuned for the ACT, Wilson said that many of the things they will teach in the session would fall in line with the ACT.

This is the first time that the Daniel Boone branch is offering these classes and they hope for it to spread to other branches and gain popularity.

“We’re kind of piloting it for the spring and we hope to really ramp it up by next school year, by the fall and really have more space available for more kids as it grows.”
