Hallie Sidney, sophomore, is no stranger to the world of competitive volleyball.  Sidney was first introduced to the sport around the 4th grade, when her sister, who is now playing volleyball at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, also started playing. Since then, Sidney has not stopped.

“I played club [volleyball] and did training in the summer,” Sidney said.

In the realm of high school sports, Sidney is one of the only two underclassmen playing for the Varsity Girls’ Volleyball team. Sidney had also made it in the 2013 season as a freshmen.

“Last year I was really nervous about being on Varsity, but now it doesn’t affect me as much,” Hallie said. I just kind of play and try to always do what I’m supposed to do at my full potential.”

And as if being an underclassmen on Varsity wasn’t already an outstanding feat, Sidney also boasts impressive statistics for the 2014 season. As an outsider hitter, Sidney plays front row and back row, so she is responsible passing the ball in a serve receive. In the St. Louis area, Sidney is ranked number two amongst all other volleyball players in the category of ‘Serves Received,’ edging out girls from Lafayette, Cor Jesu, and St. Joseph’s Academy.

So far in the 2014 season, Sidney said her favorite memories were team bonding and the dig pink night for breast cancer, but Sidney also plans on making more volleyball memories in the future.

“Hopefully I can play in college and get paid for me to go there,” Sidney said.

As of now, Sidney is focused on the rest of her high school season. The girls’ volleyball team will start districts on October 20.

“We plan on winning,” Sidney said.
