The Mustangs defeated the Francis Howell Central Spartans 38-0 in the final game of the regular season.

The victory capped off a historic season for the Mustangs, with the team finishing 7-2, their best record in recent memory. They will now suit up against the Mehlville Panthers at MHS next week for their first playoff game of the season.

Will Fleming, junior, said that he is proud of the team’s work ethic and play this year.

“It’s a great improvement. Coach Klein has made a lot of improvement, we’ve made a lot of improvement. We came out here and we played tonight and we did a great job,” Fleming said.

Fleming also pointed out the team’s motto for the season, one that has been plastered onto their bracelets and also their minds.

“ We’ve changed. That’s what our bracelets say, “change all in, baby.” Fleming said.

Matt Klein, head coach of the varsity football team, said that the team’s historic season has been the culmination of hard work since the end of last season

“Two weeks after we finished last season we started offseason weights. So there’s not doubt that there’s a lot of time and effort put into what we do.” Klein said. “We just go in and do what we do and keep preparing and pushing our kids and our kids do a great job.”

Klein said that the fans are another reason for the Mustangs’ success this year.

“Our fans have been great. Even on away games and even on a two hours drive to Jackson we’ve still had a great crowd.” Klein said. Obviously our parents do a great job supporting us along with the Stang Gang and the Cheerleaders so it’s just been a great atmosphere for us home and away this season.”
