Sophomore Principal Kyle Devine spoke to the Girls United club about sexual harassment policies during Ac Lab this afternoon. The new policy that restricts club guest speakers to before or after school does not affect clubs who invite guest speakers that work within the building.

MHS students should expect a change in lunch schedules for the 24-25 school year. Next year, instead of four lunch shifts, there will be three. “I like the three lunch shift idea because on A-Days there is such an imbalance of classes and we always end up doing something in fourth hour that the other classes don’t get to,” Sen said.

Student Council Sells Blankets for Hudson Scholarship

Kara Zonies, Student Council sponsor, is selling the blankets at lunch for students to buy.

Student Council is selling MHS-themed blankets at $25 each in the cafeteria today. $5 of each purchase will go toward funding the Marquette Academic and Cultural Club (MACC), which will use the money to pay for the Carl Hudson Memorial Scholarship, founded after the death of the principal in late 2021.

Kara Zonies, Student Council sponsor, said she initially came across the idea of producing the blankets at a state-wide meeting for Student Council leaders. From there she discussed it with the Student Council officers. The last step in the process was contacting the blanket-producing business, which finished manufacturing them.

“This is a warm, super soft, feeling-awesome blanket,” Zonies said. “It’s like a hug.”

The scholarship fund means a lot. Since MACC is no longer doing the Winter Formal and collecting money for that scholarship fund, we know that they need our help.

Zonies also said the funds from the blankets were urgently needed.

“Please help us,” Zonies said. “The scholarship fund means a lot. Since MACC is no longer doing the Winter Formal and collecting money for that scholarship fund, we know that they need our help.”

Senior Isabelle Lee, member of the Student Council, greatly appreciates the utility of the blanket.

“We not only wanted to raise funds for MACC, but we also wanted to show the Marquette community that we care about you guys,” Lee said. “ “I don’t think we’ve really ever had this type of product, especially in the school store; it is usually just clothes and sweatshirts. They’re really great to bring to football games, soccer games, basketball and just bundle up.“

Jayla Freeman, junior, said the Student Council will use the rest of the money to fund their activities like the Homecoming dance, decorations for the hallways and gifts for staff appreciation, and other things.

“I think these blankets will make a positive impact to the Marquette community because they go towards not only a Marquette organization, but to the scholarship recipient as well. This way, blanket sales benefit a variety of members throughout the community, rather than just Student Council,” Freeman said.

Freeman also said Student Council intends to further advertise the blanket throughout the school.

“To potential customers, I would say these blankets are a great way to give back to the Marquette community and show support for your school,” she said.
