Loufest rocks the park

Arctic Monkey’s, and indie-rock band, and Outkast, a hip hop duo, headlined the Loufest Music Festival this year.

Loufest is a two-day event, held annually since 2010, and rapidly growing. The lineup has transformed every year to include a broader range of genres. Loufest 2014 included 40 bands on four stages, whereas last year’s lineup only had 30 bands, appearing on three stages.

Not only is the lineup and variety growing, but the festival-goers almost tripled from 2012-2013.
“I think the word has spread about how amazing [Loufest] is, and so I think that more people are going to be there,” Tara Willey, junior, said, just days before the event.

Many students attended the festival this year for the first time, including Dayna Luethauser, senior, and Kate Hollander, junior, who both agreed they were most excited to see Arctic Monkeys.

“We mainly went to see Arctic Monkeys and The 1975, and they were really cool to see. Grouplove and Portugal. The Man were also really fun,” Hollander said.

Though the music was a main reason for attending the event, other first-timers agreed there were multiple factors, such as the unique culture of the music festival.

“I’m most excited for my outfit and what I get to wear,” Julia Baginski, junior, said. The growing indie “flower-child” fashion trend took over the two-day festival as people poured in wearing distressed denim cut-offs, flowery accessories, and flowy tribal tanks. Many outfits were reminiscent of past decades such as ‘70’s pants and sunglasses.

The large turnout this year proved the festival’s success.

“There was a lot more people than I expected, but everyone there was very friendly, and I’m definitely going to go next year,” Baginski said.
