Carter Van Buskirk (he/him), senior, is a staff reporter for the Messenger. Carter plays varsity soccer for MHS. He is a board member for the sophomore class and MHS advisory teams. He also is involved in Future Business Leaders of America and is the President of the Class of 2022. Aside from MHS, Carter enjoys world language and travel.

After a year of restrictions on St. Louis high school sporting events, student are finally returning to games. "It has felt great finally getting my friends out there to watch my games," said junior Ryan McDonald, varsity Lacrosse player.

Chris Kenny, varsity soccer coach, gives his substitutes their positions before heading onto the field vs. St. Joseph’s Academy. "St. Joseph's proves to be a great team every year," Kenny said. "Everyone definitely needs to be at their best to get the result we are looking for."

The 2022 France trip is scheduled to take place during next year's spring break in Paris and Versailles. The 2022 Spain trip is scheduled to take place during summer break in Madrid, Granada and Saville. Both trips were rescheduled from COVID-19 cancellations during the 2020 school year.

Emily Thompson, french teacher, said the safety of students is her top priority. She became a teacher to support the social-emotional health of every student in-person, which is unachievable during the pandemic. “I am a fairly healthy adult, so I am not as worried about myself as I would be for my other colleges who are substantially older, students with underlying conditions, or students and staff who are on the roulette wheel of being healthy and end up in the hospital,” Thompson said.
