MHS versus Pattonville soccer game report

The undefeated Marquette Mustangs faced off against the winless Pattonville Pirates in a close soccer matchup on Wednesday afternoon. Marquette’s defensive unit, led by seniors Matt Wagoner, Joel Perkins, Dylan Valentine and Nick Bertich, senior goalie, held the Pirates scoreless through 80 minutes ending the game at 1-0 Marquette.

The defense of this year’s mustangs has proved to be quite stellar thus far, letting in a total of just three goals through four games.

“Communication helps a lot because if we can talk to each other we can organize ourselves so we are all on the same page.” Valentine said.

Jacob Krupp, senior forward, scored the only goal of the competition midway through the first half, giving the Mustangs a goal lead on the Pirates.

Krupp now leads the team in goals and game winning goals. His contributions have led the Mustangs to only victory as they march on through an undefeated season.

“I think it comes from the help of my teammates and just working hard day in and day out.” Krupp said.

Facing off against the undefeated Northwest Lions, Marquette looks to focus in on a very difficult opponent on this year’s schedule. Preparation for big games is a key part to a team’s success. So how are Krupp and the Mustangs preparing for Tuesday’s matchup?

“Just working hard just putting in a little extra focus because we know it’s a big game.” Krupp said.
