Starting this year, seniors will receive a Senior Checkout Form during Ac Lab on Wednesday, April 30.
This form contains a list of tasks that must be completed before 4 p.m., May 8, to ensure seniors are able to attend graduation practice on Friday, May 9. This practice is necessary to be able to walk at the graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 10.
Senior Class Principal Melissa Davis explained why this form is important this year.
“This form is more of a checklist that includes things that seniors need to complete before, like paying library fines or turning in school-issued Chromebooks,” Davis said. “It is brand new this year, so the process of how things would work if a student were to not turn this in is still tentative.”
Students are held accountable for any outstanding fines with this checklist, Davis added.
Davis said seniors must receive a signature from the Senior Office, Associate Principal’s Office or Activities Office, as well as an overall, final signature from her or Jennifer Akin, Senior Class secretary.
Raymond Holmes, librarian, said the library will oversee two aspects of checkout.
“Me and Mrs. Sharitz make sure that students do not have any overdue books or outstanding fines,” Holmes said. “The technology department ensures that students submit their school issued Chromebook and the charger.”
Athletes must return their equipment to be able to receive transcripts, Lisa Nieder, administrative assistant, said.
“The Activities Office is like an extra pit stop for checking for fees and fines, but also for any outstanding uniforms or sports equipment that hasn’t been returned yet, unless the student is in a spring sport,” Nieder said.
Before COVID-19 forced communities into a quarantine, buying tickets for prom or Homecoming were different – if a student were to have any outstanding fines, they were still able to purchase tickets. Now, if a student had an outstanding fine, their student ID would be blocked and they would be unable to purchase a ticket, Nieder said.
“This method of blocking the tickets is similar to what we are trying to achieve with the Checkout Form,” Nieder said. “We just want kiddos to turn in their stuff.”
