The fittings, the glam, the dresses. Prom.
Prom is 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Frontenac Hilton Hotel. The tickets are $75 and will be available April 7th-23rd.
Janet Koch, Junior class sponsor , has been helping plan prom for many years and said she enjoys doing so.
“I started to do this because I enjoy event planning and creating the signs and posters,” Koch said.
She said that in her high school years her prom experience was not so good. This gave her the inspiration to give MHS students a prom where they can enjoy themselves and create new memories.
“Our prom was in our cafeteria. It was terrible. It showed me exactly what I didn’t want to do,” Koch said.
Ethan George, junior, also helped put together this year’s prom and said he is excited to see it all come together as this is his first prom.
“I think it would be pretty cool to see the combination of our hard work finally put together and hopefully it would be a pretty rewarding experience,” George said.
The prom itself is a dance where students dress up nicely, take pictures, sing, and dance. This year’s prom theme is Ancient Greece: A Night In Greece. The venue will have this theme incorporated into its decorations.
“Growing up seeing all the movies of prom being this big thing, so it’s definitely a special time for juniors and seniors, a combination of your high school journey,” George said.
George said prom is a significant event for some high schoolers and gives students something to look forward to as they reach the end of their high school careers.
“I’m looking forward to having a good time with my friends, eat some food,” George said.
Caroline Blackwood, senior, attended prom her junior year of high school and said she is attending this year as well.
“I’m looking forward to taking pictures and dancing and being with my friends. That will be fun,” Blackwood said.
Shopping for a prom dress is a popular way to prepare for prom and celebrate its traditions.
Blackwood said finding a dress can be a long process and kind of difficult if students are not going into it with inspiration.
“The planning process is kind of a long process because you have to know what you are looking for and sometimes you don’t know what you are looking for,” Blackwood said.
Blackwood said senior year is a less stressful prom experience in comparison to junior year because she has a better understanding of what she wants out of prom.
“Last year it was raining so we weren’t really able to get pictures without ruining the dress so this year I am excited for the pictures and just getting together with everyone and having a nice time,” Blackwood said.
