Athlete profile: Katiana Porporis

Katiana Porporis, freshmen, started swimming when she was only three years old, she was practically born in the water.  She has stuck with it ever since and earned herself a spot as one of the fastest swimmers on the varsity team.

She started off by setting records in club swimming and would make it to meets that were hard to qualify for.   Porporis recognized that she had a talent from the very beginning.   “I knew I would be good when I first started,” Porporis said.

It hasn’t been easy though.  She said that it is hard to juggle school and a rigorous swim schedule but she has both of her sisters to learn from.   Her sister are swimmers as well, and she has watched them juggle the busy swim and school schedule and has the luxury to learn from them.

Her mom also keeps her in check with all of her school work.  As a freshman, it can be hard to find the balance between work and leisure but Proporis’s mom has always made sure that she won’t fall behind.   “My mom makes sure my priorities are straight,” said Proporis.

Proporis said there is prospect of a college career, but only being a freshman she hasn’t thought much of it yet.   She is keeping the door open and said that it’s something that she is definitely interested in.

Although swimming is one of her favorite things that she enjoys she has thought of quitting.  “Sometimes I just get really frustrated with my swimming, and sometimes I just don’t want to go to practice,” said Proporis.

She has had her highs and lows with the sport, but she plans to continue swimming and she is thoroughly enjoying being a part of a high school team.  “I just enjoy it a lot, it’s something that makes me happy!,” Proporis said.
