Colin McHugh, junior, is a standout swimmer on the 2013 MHS Boys swim and dive team. However, McHugh had to overcome an obstacle this season.
“I was sick for a couple of weeks, but I pulled through,” McHugh said.
Despite this setback, McHugh has managed to get two state cuts so far. He has achieved this goal in the 100-yard backstroke and as a member of the 200-yard medley relay.
McHugh’s typical events are the 100-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle, and the 50-backstroke portion of the 200-yard medley relay.
McHugh said he expects good things for the MHS swim and dive team as they move into the end of their season. The team will compete in the Suburban West Conference meet Nov. 7- 8 at Lafayette High School.
McHugh, along with the other members of the MHS state swim team, will compete in the MSHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving Championships Nov. 15-16 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.
“Marquette swim team is the most fun I’ve ever had on a team,” McHugh said.
