Student Profile: Jennifer Firestone

Jennifer Firestone, senior, has a passion for the music industry. Over the summer of 2013, Firestone participated in multiple events and camps that are related to her interest in the world of music.

In June of 2013, Firestone attended “Grammy Camp”, a camp sponsored by The Grammy Foundation that takes places in Los Angeles, CA, Nashville, TN, and New York, NY. Firestone applied to attend the camp in March and was accepted in May.

“I attended the camp in Los Angeles,” Firestone said. “It was at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music.”

At the camp, Firestone said there were many different tracks that each camper could choose to take and from there, they were brought to speakers and activities that were targeted toward their interests. Guest speakers included people in the music business industry, such as different agents and managers. Brandon Chapman, who puts on the Grammy’s every year, was also a speaker.

“I was in the music business track and we learned about the different aspects and jobs you can get from that track,” Firestone said. “At the end of the camp, we managed different combos, music groups of students at the camp, at the final concert.”

Along with the camp, Firestone also volunteered at Loufest, an indie music festival in St. Louis, in early September.

“I’m also applying to volunteer at Warped Tour this summer,” Firestone said.

As for future goals, Firestone plans to attend Mizzou and major in communications because of the wide spectrum of jobs.

“My dream job would to be a tour manager, but anything in music would be great,” Firestone said. “I plan to volunteer at the Bluenote in Columbia and a radio station.”
