Della Thompson, French teacher, was awarded the title of Teacher of the Year for the 2023 school year.

Thompson was given flowers and balloons in front of her students on Thursday, Feb. 16.

Thompson’s family was invited beforehand to surprise her during class.

Teacher of the Year is an annual award recognizing a teacher for their work and character throughout the school year.

Thompson is the 31st MHS teacher to be awarded the title.

Both teachers and students nominate teachers for the title, then teachers are able to vote for the final recipient of the award.

Thompson will now continue competing for Teacher of the Year at the District level.

At the district level, a separate committee will select the District Teacher of the Year representing Rockwood at the state level.
