Meet MHS: Samantha Bayne

Everyone has a story

Samantha Bayne, senior, is no stranger to strange job experiences.
Bayne started working at Old Navy this summer.

While on duty at Old Navy, a shopper sprinted out of the store, with more than 25 items of merchandise in tow. But as an employee, Bayne’s choices of action were limited.

“I couldn’t do anything, Bayne said. “There are certain legalities. You’re not allowed to accuse people of shoplifting, so what I had to do was be a witness and file a report.”

The odd experience even had ties to Bayne’s dream career: law. Though Bayne had wanted to be a lawyer long before the robbery, the whole spectacle made her extremely angry, adding to her desire go into corporate law

“I want to be a lawyer because I really believe in the value of justice, and I think it’s important that across all types of law- corporate, criminal, etc.- that we’re still able to find justice,” Bayne said.
As the president of the debate team and the president of the politics club and a producer for MHStv, Bayne said she chose her activities to help prepare for a career in law.

Bayne draws a lot of inspiration from First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
“She did so many things while also being a woman,” Bayne said. “She didn’t do things because she was a woman. She was just a fantastic person that did so much for human rights.

Bayne considers her love for law and politics to be a quirk of hers. Bayne even described the start of her politics club as one of her best memories.

“It was one of the first times I took a stand, and was able to allow everyone else to express their viewpoints. So that day I was really happy.”
