Club Spotlight: National Honor Society selecting new members
Every year MHS sees a new club, or loses an old one. However National Honors Society (NHS) stands out from the rest every year.
Dalton Loos, senior, is the club president this year. He joined NHS his junior year.
“You have to be at least a junior to apply to NHS and last year I was one of about 50 students to get accepted,” Loos said.
Loos said he originally joined because his brother did it.
“It’s very good for college applications, community service, and even when applying for jobs,” Loos said.
Last year the club met twice a month on late start days, however this year, they will meet every other week on Thursdays.
“So far we’ve received 150 junior applications, and we’ll probably accept around 50,” Loos said.
Loos said they will be taking part in many types of community service this year.
“We do a lot of events, like passing out water at marathons, food drives, school carnivals and we even ring the bells outside Schnucks for the Salvation Army,” Loos said.
Loos said most of the group gets pretty close.
“During the summer we usually have a pool party at someone’s house and around Halloween time we have a lock-in,” Loos said.
Loos said there will be around 100 total members this year.
