Football team looks to defeat Oakville Tigers

This Friday, August 27, the Mustangs head into their season opener at Oakville High School. After losing 28-26 in their last meeting, the Mustangs, ranked 174th in the state, look to defeat the Tigers, ranked 123rd.

Mark Linneman, Activities Director, said that he’s enthusiastic about the new season and about the upcoming game against Oakville.

“I’ve heard that there are many good athletes returning this year,” Linneman said. “All of the coaches are really excited about this new season.”

The Mustangs, after going only 3-7 last year, have higher expectations for this season.

Peter Boyer, assistant coach, said that he anticipates this year’s team to be better than last year’s.

“We expect every player, especially the seniors, to step up this year,” Boyer said. “We want them to be ready to play hard.”

Linneman and Boyer both emphasized the need for MHS to have a large fan base this season.

“We’ve always had a lot of fans come out every game and we expect that this year,” Linneman said. “Usually when we have a better team, there’s a better following and we expect our team to be pretty strong this year.”

With many players returning this year, the Mustangs head into Friday’s game at Oakville looking for a win.
