Athletes shouldn’t have PE class requirements

As a sophomore who plays a spring sport at MHS, I know how much time and effort school sports take.

On average, about 12 hours a week are spent practicing after school, plus games and the occasional weekend tournament. Only a little over three hours are spent a week in PE class.

So why is it required for students who play sports to take PE?

School sports require just as much, if not more physical activity than PE does.

I believe that students who play a sport should not have to take a PE class. It is a waste of time for student athletes to take PE for 49 minutes during school when they are going to have a two-hour practice after school anyway.

Instead of running around in a gym for a whole class period, students could be taking a class that would provide more education and information that would help them later in life.

I think that most student athletes here would agree that being required to take a PE class is unnecessary.

Playing a school sport is already a huge dedication of time and physical effort and being required to take a PE class is not needed.
