In the hope of cultivating a space for students to learn about and apply to different jobs, with the help of business teacher Laura Strickland, MHS hosted a job fair during first and second mods of Ac Lab on Monday, March 11.
The fair, which was held in the gym, was host to a variety of employers such as Life Time Fitness, Raising Cane’s and Six Flags St. Louis.
Principal Dr. Tracey Waeckerle sent out a message on ParentSquare informing students of the event.
“We have a wide variety of jobs from summer lifeguarding to full-time sales positions for graduating seniors,” said the announcement.
“It’s a good opportunity for students to practice talking to employers,” Dr. Waeckerle said.
The goal is to make it easier for students to gain access to potential employment opportunities in the community, which is why there were on-site applications and possibly even on-site interviews.
“Overall, I hope it’s beneficial for kids,” Dr. Waeckerle said.
Andrew Voss, senior, attended Mod 2 in Ac Lab.
“I just want to know what kind of opportunities there are to get employed for a student at Marquette, and to find what places would be best for me personally,” Voss said.
Voss, who is unsure of what type of job he wants but said it will most likely be food service, said he’s looking for a job over the summer in order to not have to work his freshman year of college.
“I really just want to learn about what the process is,” Voss said. “How to do interviews, things like that. Just generally about how to get a job as a high schooler.”
Grace Bonczek, junior, visited LifeTime Fitness’ stand at the job fair to see what they have to offer. She also said she hopes her prior experience as a packager at her friend’s sunglass manufacturing company will help her get the job.
While Life Time is her main job choice, Bonczek also said she intends to look for any other job options that catch her eye.
