This Thursday, Oct. 11, the Relay Splash informational meeting for Rockwood Relay for Life 2013 will be held in the Flex Room from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Attendees can gather ideas about next year’s Relay for Life, and information regarding registration, scholarships, fundraising ideas, luminaria, and the survivor’s dinner at the Relay Splash.
“Relay for Life is an uplifting way to celebrate those who are battling cancer and honor those who have lost their battle,” Sue Myers, one of the Rockwood Relay for Life coordinators, said. “The survivor’s dinner, survivor’s lap, and luminaria ceremonies are very moving and meaningful to all because we all know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer.”
Participating in the Relay for Life is a way to raise funds for programs helping those who have been diagnosed with cancer as well as programs providing research money, Myers said.
Myers said that anyone can come to the Relay Splash, regardless of whether they have a team or are starting a team.
“We want anyone who wants to know about Relay to come,” Myers said. “There will be great ideas for all levels.”
Myers said the first step in attending the Relay for Life is forming a team of friends, family, or a combination of both. Each team member is encouraged to raise $100, and those that do will receive a T-shirt.
“Although raising funds is the goal, the most important goal is to spread the word about cancer prevention and programs available to those fighting cancer,” Myers said.
In addition to attending Relay Splash for information on participating in Relay for Life, those who are interested in volunteering in any capacity can contact Myers at [email protected] or Eren Taylor-Scaggs at [email protected].
