Over the summer, Junior Advisory held a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Missouri.
Junior Advisory is a group of selected juniors that help with certain grade level activities and projects.
Kelly Dunlap, junior, helped organize the fundraiser.
“We decided to hold a bike-a-thon for the humane society in August this year at Route 66 state park,” Dunlap said.
The money came from a $10 donation to ride in the event. People rode their bikes and brought there pets. There was also an adoption agency present with puppies at the event.
The group of juniors Dunlap worked with to organize the event were able to raise $310 to donate to the animal rescue division of Humane Society of Missouri.
“I love what the humane society does,” Dunlap said. “I think they’re an understated not for profit agency. Plus, I’m a dog lover!”
The Missouri Humane Society has been working to end animal cruelty since 1870 and has rescued thousands of animals.
In addition to helping the Humane Society of Missouri, the Junior Advisory members learned how to organize events.
“I learned how to communicate with business people and the legal process that is required for something like this to occur,” Dunlap said. “The event was very successful considering it was my first time organizing something like this. I’m very grateful to those I worked with on this project!”
