Obama delivers job speech

President Obama delivered his jobs speech on Thursday, Sep 8. The speech introduced his new bill, the American Jobs Act, in efforts to restore the country’s faith in the economy.

“The purpose of the American Jobs Act is simple:  to put more people back to work and more money in the pockets of those who are working,” Obama said.

The bill will create more jobs for construction workers, teachers, veterans, and the long-term unemployed in addition to repairing and modernizing at least 35,000 schools across the country.

Besides job creation, the bill also provides tax credits to companies that add new workers, tax relief to small business owners, and tax cuts to the middle class.

“Everything in here has been supported by both Democrats and Republicans,” Obama explained.

A provision in the bill includes a $4,000 tax credit for companies if they hire anyone who spend more than six months looking for a job.

“I think it’s great,” Jade Munden, senior, said. “It creates jobs and we needs jobs”
