This year’s snow days have given AP classes less time to cover the information students need to take the exam. The fact that AP exam fees are due Friday, Feb. 25 is just a reminder of the impending exam dates.
The cost per AP exam is $87.00, with the exam dates between Monday, May 6 and Friday, May 13.
“This fee is set by College Board, the organization in charge of the AP Program, which covers all costs associated with generating and scoring tests,” Juli Rust, testing coordinator, said. “College Board permits each school administering AP exams to retain a very small amount of an exam fee to assist in any building related testing costs, for example, proctors or testing supplies.”
Using state and federal funds, the College Board offers financial aid for students.
“Students are eligible for these reductions based on their family’s annual income and participation in the free or reduced lunch program,” Rust said. “Marquette offers a hardship fund for students not eligible for College Board’s fee reductions, but their families are experiencing financial difficulties.”
All students who meet the College Board’s eligibility requirements receive financial aid, but those applying for Marquette’s hardship fund are considered on an individual basis.
Rust said an advantage of taking an AP class is that it gives students the opportunity to challenge themselves in high school.
“Depending on a student’s score on a particular AP exam, the potential to earn college credit for a substantially lower cost could save him or her hundreds of dollars,” Rust said.
Students planning to take an AP exam must turn in their check by Friday, Feb. 25 to the College Center.
