Nike, Adidas, New Balance, American Eagle, Levi’s, and DC are all brands of clothing and shoe that high school students wear every day. They all can be donated to the Clothes to Home Clothing Drive through the Marquette Key Club. Marquette Key Club is helping out this charity by collecting new or gently used clothes, shoes, and accessories from students.
“My aunt reached out to me and asked me to help her out, so I asked my friends and sent out texts to see if they wanted to donate,” Alex Sturma, senior said.
She said she has been helping out her aunt with this since November, and she is still collecting donations.
“We haven’t had the response we thought we would have,” Alex Nelle, Key Club Sponsor.
Nelle said only five or six bags of clothes have been donated since they started the drive in November. Key Club has only had members get out the word about the drive, except for some flyers on bulletin boards throughout the campus.
“We talk about it in meetings and emphasize that we really need help,” Abby Flores, Key Club Treasurer, said.
Flores said that the response from the students has not been very good. She also said that Key Club may put up posters around the school to promote the cause.
“We really need help to collect clothing for the drive,” Flores said. The drive goes all year and clothes can be dropped off in Alex Nelle’s room, 214. Clothes can also be dropped off to Leslie Vollertsen as well.
“I texted all my friends and talked to my family member at the beginning, but I should probably text them again to make sure, sometimes people say they can do it, then forget about it,” Sturma said.
Sturma suggested putting up one of the big banners in the commons to get the word out. She thinks it would really help get the word out to the majority of the school and the students.
