Many celebrities have made their break into fame over the internet. Justin Bieber, Canadian R&B and pop singer, is one of the many well known celebrities who became famous through Youtube.
Scooter Brawny, Bieber’s manager, discovered Bieber, then age 12, through a Youtube video. Today, Bieber is a nationally known celebrity who was recently awarded “Best New Artist” at the 2010 Video Music Awards.
Like Justin, many MHS students have posted videos on Youtube hoping to gain their moment in the spotlight.

Mackenzie Graville, senior, broadcasts her singing through Youtube. Graville has been uploading videos since June of 2009.

“I started uploading videos because my friends who heard me sing told me they thought I was good, and that I should start uploading them,” Graville said.

Graville is now a Youtube success with 745 subscribers and more than 70 channel comments.

Graville said she likes the idea of being a professional singer, but is also realistic in her expectations.

“It’s really hard to get into singing. I definitely am not expecting too,” she said.

Graville currently has 17 videos uploaded on Youtube under the account Mychemicalxlove, but plans on adding more in the near future.

“I’m hoping that this article helps put me out there, so more people can see my videos,” Graville says.

Caroline Glaser, junior, is another MHS student that has uploaded videos onto Youtube. Glaser has uploaded eight covers including “Replay” by Lyaz, “Realize” by Colby Calliat and “Giving Up” by Ingrid Michaelson.

“I started uploading my videos because I really wanted to hear outsiders opinions on my covers,” Glaser said. “At first I didn’t really want people I know to see my covers, but now I don’t really care.”

Glaser uploaded her first video “Giving Up” by Ingrid Michaelson in June of 2009. The video now has 1,203 views.

Glaser said she loves getting feedback on her videos, even if it’s negative.

“There’s always something I can improve on, and my friends aren’t going to criticize me,” Glaser said. “That’s why I like having my videos on Youtube. People tell me their actual opinions.”

Glaser said she would love to be famous.

“I’ve always been really into music and it would be awesome to have a career involving it,” she said.

Glaser still uploads videos periodically under her account csg9801.

Hirabayashi, unlike Glaser and Graville does not only sing, but plays the guitar, bass, drums, violin and cello as well.

“I play instruments for the most part, and I sing too,” Hirabayashi said. “Well, at least I try to sing.”

Hirabayashi has uploaded 31 covers including “Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Buble, “Who Says” by John Mayer, “Baby” by Justin Bieber, and “Your Love Is My Drug” by Ke$ha.

“I started uploading covers because I’ve seen Dave Days and David Choys videos, and I thought if they can do it, I can also,” Hirabayashi said.

Hirabayashi currently has 214 subscribers but strives for more.

“I know a bunch of girls that have like a billion subscribers, so I hope this article with put me out there and get me some more subscribers,” Hiraybayashi said.
