Movie Review: To All The Boys I Loved Before

Watched the movie once with my best friend. Watched it again 15 minutes later with my mom and my best friend. It was just that good.

The shy girl who never shared her feelings. The dashingly handsome guy who was “way out of her league.” Sounds like the cliche chick-flick right?

This couldn’t be farther from the truth for the new Netflix movie To All The Boys I Loved Before.

The movie, based off of the bestselling book by Jenny Han, follows high school student Lara Jean Covey and her complicated love life. Whenever she falls for a guy, she writes him a detailed love letter to then be stashed away and never found; however, this all goes wrong when her little sister mails the letters to her sister’s ex-crushes.

Peter Kavinsky is one of the recipients. Following his break-up with the most popular girl in school, Gen,  he’d do anything to make her jealous and want him back. Peter and Lara Jean decide to fake date so that the other letter recipients believe that Lara Jean no longer likes them and also to make Gen jealous.

The choices in actors for this movie was phenomenal. Lana Candor does an outstanding job portraying the shy and “invisible” girl that Lara Jean is. This accurate portrayal made the character so much more believable and the film so much more relatable. Noah Centineo (Peter) was also an incredible decision as he creates the perfect balance between the typical popular guy while also showing emotion and love towards his love interest.

And for those “Pretty Little Liars” fans reading this review, Janel Parrish (Mona on “Pretty Little Liars”) also stars in this heartwarming film. Parrish plays Lara Jean’s older sister, Margot, whose ex-boyfriend (Josh Sanderson played by Israel Broussard) is another love letter recipient from Lara Jean.

This beautiful and emotional love story is the best movie I have ever watched. I laughed. I cried. I squealed like a little girl on Christmas morning. This movie is so relatable and just overall completely captivating the entire time.

I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to fangirl over the cutest couple of all time. And even if you don’t want to, you should still watch it because this movie truly is the best movie I’ve ever seen.

So get ready people. You’re going to want to watch this one a few times.
