Savannah Lockwood, junior, has been figure skating since she was three years old.
“I saw an ice show at a rink in my home town and it got me hooked for the rest of my life,” Lockwood said. “I used to compete solo, singles, when I was younger. Now I mostly compete in synchronized skating, five to six times a year.”
Most recently, Lockwood attended a competition in Michigan.
“It went really well,” Lockwood said. “One of my teams medaled, and one got seventh out of 14, which is really good. We’re headed out for Ann Arbor soon.”
Skating is a huge presence in Lockwood’s life, with practices before and after school, and a job at Hardee’s Iceplex.

I passed one of those and am working on my junior moves in the field.”
Currently, Lockwood said her most advanced moves are a double loop and a flying camel.
“The double loop is a jump and the flying camel is a spin,” Lockwood said. “My favorite move is a combination spin of a layback and a sit spin.”
Lockwood said her favorite show she’s ever done was a wedding program for a solo competition.
“It was a lot of fun,” Lockwood said. “I got first. I had a miniature wedding dress and it was a really fun piece with a lot of hard elements.”
Lockwood said she’d love to continue skating through college, and encourages everyone who has the opportunity to try skating.
“Everyone at least needs to try skating,” Lockwood said. “It’s more comfortable than walking after you get used to it, and a lot of people never discover that. Everyone should at leas
