Billy Baker, junior, plays two hockey and lacrosse for MHS.
Baker has been playing hockey since he was five years and he has been playing lacrosse since he was in 6th grade.
He said a large group of his friends played lacrosse, so it was really easy for him to get the hang of it. Baker plays midfield in lacrosse
Staying in shape throughout high school was the main reason he continued playing he said.
Baker said lacrosse has allowed him to travel quite a bit.
“I’ve gone to Gettysburg, North Carolina, and California,” said Baker.
MHS lacrosse has recently been moved up to the highest division a high school team can be placed in, D1. He said although this is sort of a promotion for the team he isn’t too happy about it.
“I don’t like the move up to D1 because we would be more likely to win state if we stayed in D2, and Id rather win state than lose in the fist round of playoffs,” said Baker.
When he’s not playing lacrosse Baker plays as a defender for MHS hockey. He has been playing the game since a young age, and much like lacrosse, hockey has allowed baker to travel to different places like Chicago and Indianapolis.
“I started playing because my dad did when I was about five,” Baker said.
Baker said hockey is not a school sponsored sport and has recently lost popularity.
“I mean it stinks, but with how much hockey can cost not a lot of people will want to play for that,” said Baker.
