The “Senior Women’s Club,” is self-described by its name: a club, made up entirely of the girls of the Senior Class. But their goals are more than what the name describes.
Seniors Leyna Stemle and Kylie May are members if the club this year.
“The idea of the Senior Women’s Club is to give back to the community and just give back in general,” Stemle said.
The giving could be through material items or through giving time to accomplish different goals.
It’s quite simply, “just giving back,” Mays said
Their current project is selling used homecoming and prom dresses for a generous price of $15 to $20 . After sales are recorded, the money is donated to the charity of the club’s choice.
“We have more irregular meetings. We get to decide what we want to do,” Stemle said.
The club runs a Christmas donation during the holiday season to families that have less.
“We are usually donating presents, money and necessities to families in need,” Mays said.
The wacky Olympics and the Powder Puff game are other events that the Senior Women cover every year.
“We do the Powder Puff jerseys and other events related to the Senior Class,” Mays said.
The Senior Women are often compared to the Key Club for their charitable donations, but they are slightly different.
“Nobody is coming for hours,” Stemle said.
While many students in Key Club are working for hours, the Senior Women are just helping out because they can.
“People come when they can,” Mays said.
While this means that the Senior Women won’t always get the best turnout, their leaders usually work hard enough to get the job done.
“Officers have to be committed,” Stemle said.
The Senior Women can be much more flexible than the Key Club with their events and donations.
“We can propose our own ideas and charities,” Stemle said.
The Senior Women will continue to sponsor events and donate through the year, with any senior girl allowed to join.
