For many, Prom is a big deal. It’s all over movies, magazines, TV shows, and songs. Girls spend weeks looking for dresses well ahead of time while the guys get fitted for a tuxedo the week before; but everyone still feels the nervous stress of pulling together the perfect Prom.
For Dan Lasker, senior, April 14 was especially busy. Not only was he nominated for Prom King that night (a title which he later won), but he had a packed schedule leading up to the dance that evening.
Lasker spent the morning taking the ACT at MHS. He said he woke up bright and early because he had a track meet immediately afterwards.
“I got [to MHS] at 7 to take the 8 0′ clock ACT and I was the first one here becasue I wanted to get done early so I could get to my track meet,” Lasker said.
Lasker said he didn’t feel rushed to finish the ACT because of his track meet because of his early arrival time. However, once he finished testing, Lasker said, he found out the meet was cancelled due to heavy rain.
“I was relieved because I could take a break before Prom,” Lasker said.
Mike Harris, senior, said he found himself in a little more of a time crunch. A member of the varsity boys volleyball squad, Harris had a tournament all day Saturday which could have overlapped with Prom depending on how the team performed.
“The day before [Prom] I was stressed just because I wasn’t sure what would happen or if we would be late,” Harris said.
The Mustangs lost to the Lancers in the semi-finals, however, and Harris said he had enough time to get ready for Prom afterwards. Harris said he wanted to win as much as any other team, but the loss wasn’t all bad because of the situation.
“We ended up not being in a rush since we lost in the semi-finals,” Harris said. “We got back about an hour before pictures so there was actually some time to relax.”
