After three years of varsity basketball at MHS, center Ryan Rosburg, senior, named Mizzou as his college of choice for the next four years in an episode of Frailey’s Mustang Mania on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
Rosburg said he made a verbal commitment with Mizzou after his visit to the University in mid-October helped him make a final decision about his future.
“I think all along I knew I wanted to go to Mizzou but wasnt’ sure if I was going to go there,” Rosburg said. “But after seeing the team practice and getting to know the coaches better, it just felt right.”
Mizzou offered Rosburg a full-ride scholarship for basketball. Schools including Virgina, Missouri State, and Tennessee also made offers to Rosburg.
“The hardest part about making the decision was having to tell the other schools ‘no’,” Rosburg said. “I got to know the coaches pretty well and it was hard to tell them because I like them a lot.”
Shane Matzen, varsity basketball head coach, said he is proud of Rosburg, and he is excited for the upcoming season.
“The good thing about Ryan is, as good of a player as he is, he is a better teammate,” Matzen said. “I’m sure everyone wants to be Division One caliber like Ryan, but all of the other teammates are happy for him and they know he won’t let his decision get in the way of the team.”
Rosburg said that with his college decision out of the way, he feels a lot less pressure.
“Before I was always nervous but now I don’t have to worry about where I’m going to go to school,” Rosburg said. “I can just focus on the high school season.”
