Model United Nations attends first conference

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, 50 students acted as delegates in a simulation of the United Nations at the Doubletree hotel. Speaking with students from across the St. Louis area, they discussed political/security and economic/social issues and worked together to develop a solution to these international problems.

Shayan Sazdar, junior, delivered a speech regarding the escalating violence in Mexico with regards to drugs, arguing for a more multilateral approach to the war on drugs not only in Mexico but in the United States as well. Sazdar was participating as a delegate for Egypt.

“I like Model UN because its a great opportunity to learn about other nations,” Sazdar said. “We also further learn about the challenges actual representatives experience in the process.”
