“Fall Sports 2010.” This title is now a part of the past. The seasons and post-seasons have come and gone, but not without leaving behind new records and feats to stay in the history books for at least one more year.
Overall, Activities Director Mark Linneman said this year’s fall sports lineup did better than any in the past.
“It was a fabulous fall sports season, probably the best one since I’ve been here in terms of so many teams doing so well,” Linneman said.
Linneman said the post-season appearances added excitement, but it’s the team’s overall record that counts.
From varsity boys soccer’s post-season stretch to varsity football’s record-breaking amount of wins, Linneman said he has seen a spike in the number of spectators at games. While football has always been the big-ticket fall sport, Linneman said other sports saw a growth in their fan bases as well.
“Some of the sports that started getting people’s attention at the end like field hockey and volleyball would may not always get as big of crowds as football, but that picked up as the year went on,” Linneman said.
There was increase of both student and staff fans at the games.
“That attitude is contagious,” Linneman said. “I thought it was really neat.”
A number of fall sports participated in post season tournaments.
Along with varsity football, varsity field hockey, varsity cross country, varsity boys soccer, and varsity girls volleyball, boys swimming and diving and girls golf also made it into the post season. Boys swimming and diving placed second in Conference and is competing in State tonight and tomorrow.
Anne Govern represented girls golf at State in October, where she placed twenty third.
