Lafayette and Marquette, The Mizzou and KU of high school football. These two Rockwood football teams will face each other Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Lafayette. Both teams have winning records this year: Lafayette 5-3 and Marquette 6-2.
“Lafayette is on a winning streak right now, they’ve won four games in a row,” middle and side line backer Nick Thomas-Smith, junior, said.
Lafayette has lost to Lindbergh, McCluer North and Eureka, while MHS defeated Lindbergh and lost to Eureka and Christian Brothers College (CBC). Lafayette lost to Eureka 0-28 and Marquette lost to Eureka 8-24.
“We played better against Eureka than Lafayette did, I think that shows that we are truly a better team,” Thomas-Smith said. “I think we will defeat Lafayette if our offensive line plays well and we create turnovers on defense. Fundamental football is the key to a win on Friday.”
Lafayette’s starting receiver and starting running back are both out for the season due to injuries.
“It’s going to be an intense game because this is the game you look forward to all year. We don’t mind that it’s at Lafayette because Marquette always fills the away stands,” Thomas-Smith said.
