Once a year, the Commons are decorated with large signs, urging a win for all school sports teams. During this time, styles seem to change every day as students wear their pajamas one day, and their school t-shirts the next. This is Homecoming Week. It’s Spirit Week. But it doesn’t stop at 3:05 on the Friday at the end of the week, it goes all weekend.
Homecoming weekend is set to kick off with a football game between the Marquette Mustangs (5-1) and the Fox Warriors (0-5) on Friday, Oct 9.
Suffering only one loss to Eureka this season, the Mustangs have the best record they have ever had prior to the homecoming game. After five days of spirit week, the mood has been set for the big game this weekend.
Ryan Thornhill, varsity football coach said he isn’t giving this game any special treatment.
“We’re focused on Fox just as we are on all other teams,” Thornhill said. “They are very well coached, and they play well too.”
After the star quarterback, Matt Seevers, Senior, suffered an injury over the summer, some worries about the team’s future began to surface. However, those worries have been put to rest by the team’s winning record.
“When I heard about [Seevers], I thought we were done for,” Landon Washam, junior, said. “But we’ve actually been doing really good.”
The game against the Warriors is set to begin at 7 pm Friday, Oct 9.
