Scott Szevery, history teacher, witnessed the total eclipse with students. To commemorate the event, he wore a black shirt with a fancy trim, pinstriped black pants, leather shoes, paisley tie, and welders glasses which were certified safe for viewing an eclipse.“Because it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, I treated this like a special day,” Szevery said. “You dress up for your wedding because that’s hopefully a once in a lifetime opportunity, so I dressed up a little bit for the eclipse.”

Lisa Del Pizzo, science teacher, viewed and discussed the science behind the eclipse with her colleagues. For Del Pizzo, it was the first time she had ever experienced totality. “The corona, which was that radiance of the sun behind the moon, was pretty beautiful,” Del Pizzo said.

Juniors Shreya Gautam (left) and Maggie Yoon (right) enjoy the eclipse with friends. Gautum felt pride in her community to be able to host the event. “St. Louis has never been as amazing as New York City or LA, but I really feel like we sere super lucky to be in the path of the eclipse,” Gautam said.

Kyle Mccasland, senior, excited to witness the eclipse felt very lucky to witness the eclipse in St. Louis. “It’s a really unique opportunity and with everybody who is here, it was bond to happen, it was fate,” Mccasland said.
