Sophomores don’t need parking

Should sophomores be allowed to purchase parking passes? Ideally anyone who has a car and is legally able to drive should be able to drive themselves and their friends to school, but unfortunately as any MHS student would know, we have way too many students to be able to allow that.

MHS has already expanded the building to better accommodate the 2,251 students, so it’s understandable there would be lack of room on campus for expansion of the parking lot to better accommodate sophomore drivers without cutting into the sports fields.

While it can be frustrating for the group of sophomores who can drive and do have cars to not be able to drive to school, it’s only fair that upperclassmen get first dibs on the parking spots.

Upperclassmen only have two years left of high school, and I’m sure for some of them driving to school with their friends could quite possibly be the highlight of their day. So we might as well keep things fair and give the older students the parking spots. They waited until they were upperclassmen to get parking spots and they survived.

Also upperclassmen have an extra year of driving under their belt before tackling the busy and crowed parking lot. Altogether the lack of sophomores in the parking lot may save quite a few students from fender benders because because the drivers are inexperienced.

Moral of the story? Chill out, sophomore drivers. You can wait one more year to drive to school, even if your new car is pretty rad.

Because honestly we don’t have room for new parking spots and do you really want you’re school budget going toward a new parking lot instead of things like… I don’t know… better school lunches? New bathroom sinks? New world history books? New computers or
at least faster Wi-Fi?
