Everybody shops there. There’s one in almost every town in America. It’s your friendly Walmart.
It’s the one store that offers just about everything you could think to buy at a store at a very low price. Need groceries? Walmart has it. Need campfire equipment? Walmart has it. Need clothes? Walmart has it.
But is shopping at Walmart really good for the economy?
Walmart ranks number one in world’s biggest retailers with an annual revenue of $405 billion according to an infographic off CNN, retail info systems..
Walmart has enough customers that even if they did take a huge hit, they would still be doing just fine.
So who’s to say they won’t start trying to put other companies out of business? Who’s to say they haven’t already tried?
The closest Walmarts to MHS are either the Chesterfield Valley or going all the way down Manchester Road.
With more than 7,400 Walmart stores, they easily have competition from just about every retail store.
The competition between Walmart and Target is already firce enough as it is. And now with their grocery section they’re competing with Dierbergs and Schnucks as well. And if all of Walmart’s competition goes out of business, then the company will do what any other monopoly would do: raise their prices dramatically, since their is nowhere else to shop.
So if you like the buying products at very cheap prices now, then go ahead and shop at Walmart, see what’ll happen to the prices in 10 years when they put everyone else out of business. But if you want to buy products at reasonable prices and keep those prices reasonable, then stop shopping at Walmart. Instead shop at retail stores such as Target and K-Mart and grocery stores such as Dierbergs and Schnucks.
