Students from high schools Normandy and Riverview Gardens now have the option to go to Rockwood schools after a Missouri Supreme Court decision ruled their previous schools unaccredited.
According to Mo. Rev. Stat. Section 167.131, an unaccredited school is an academic institution not recognized by the United States Secretary of Education and uncertified to distribute nationally recognized diplomas to its students. When an unaccredited district closes schools, students wanting to transfer into other districts must find their own transportation. The unaccredited district must then pay the tuition for the students transferring to an accredited district.
Of the 25 students extended this offer, only four will actually be coming to Rockwood, one of which currently attends MHS. Regina Martin, A+/ Guidance Secretary, confirmed the new student, but could not give a name.
