The Picture Rockwood Facilitating Team held its Community Engagement Summation Session Monday. Based on input from the community, the apple and orange pictures have been combined into a single picture that will be released at the School Board meeting on Thursday.
“The new picture address areas that need to be improved,” said Alex Nelle, social studies teacher. These areas include facility improvements, safety, and security, he said.
Lee Mitchell, head librarian, also said Picture Rockwood has gone well.
“They’re trying to figure out what’s best for students, staff, and community,” she said.
The picture being released on Thursday assumes the passage of a $39 million no-tax increase bond issue that will pay for programs mentioned in the picture. Tax increases were included in the previous apple and orange pictures, of $0.97 and $1.13, respectively. However, the board scrapped these tax increases in the new picture based on responses to a telephone survey of the Rockwood community. 73 percent of respondents said they would not vote for any tax increases put on the ballot, according to the Picture Rockwood website.
Tax increases would have funded programs such as Bring Your Own Device, to allow students to access school content such as the student shared drives through their own laptops, tablets or other devices, and various other improvements in technology.
Decisions on facility improvements will be released Thursday with the rest of the picture. Proposed improvements include updating locker rooms atEurekaHigh Schoolto better comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and various security improvements.
