The MHS Prom Planning Committee is bringing the glitz and glamour of Old Hollywood to this year’s Prom.
“It’s never really done before, and we thought it was pretty classy and there were lots of options for decorations,” junior Kiersten Kuc, member of the Prom Planning Committee, said.
Kuc said they plan to have a red carpet and a backdrop for students to pose in front of, and the favors are Ray-Ban inspired sunglasses with “Prom 2012” printed on the sides.
Prom tickets went on sale today and will run through Friday, March 30, for this week and will be sold in the theater Monday, April 2, through Thursday, April 5.
Tickets are $55. Noelle Clatto, language arts teacher, is the adviser to the Prom Planning Committee.
“We didn’t want to raise the price, we wanted to keep it steady,” Clatto said. “We ballparked the cost of dinner, party favors, the DJ and kept some leftover for next year.”
Prom this year will be held at the Millennium Hotel downtown, Clatto said. Part of the reason this venue was chosen is because the hotel had MHS’s date of Prom open.
“We’ve gone there several times, and it’s big enough to hold everyone,” Clatto said.
The dance will start at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:45 p.m., and will end at 11 p.m.
If students wish to go with someone from another school, they need to fill out a visitor’s form and have it ready when they buy their tickets, Clatto said.
“I would allow two to three days to get that form back,” Clatto said.
To purchase tickets, students must have all their fines paid. Students then have to sign the sales contract acknowledging that there are no refunds. This also helps to keep track of the number of students going to prom.
All forms are currently available at any office, Clatto said.
As far as dates go, Clatto said she has no policy on students bringing other students of the same gender outside of MHS.
“Several people say they’re going with their cousin, or friend, since they don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend,” Clatto said. “They just go with someone they know they’re going to have fun with, so we just don’t ask.”
Kuc said she thinks if a student is going to have a date, they should avoid waiting too long to ask so they don’t end up buying tickets at the last minute.
However, she said she doesn’t feel like people even have to have dates to attend Prom.
“I feel like it’s a high school experience,” Kuc said.
