High school is the time for students to plan out their future, and for Elyse Flores, sophomore, her planning began with applying for the Dream Catchers Scholarship.
On Thursday, Feb. 16, Flores had a surprise visit at school announcing her as a Dream Catcher recipient. The Dream Catcher program gives grants to students for a summer program to help students on their career paths.
“The scholarship will help because it teaches me skills for leadership positions,” Flores said. “This is a great opportunity.”
Flores is going to attend Lindenwood’s Lion’s Pride Project over the summer that will focus on leadership skills. By winning Dream Catchers, Flores received $375 to help pay for the program. Flores participates in Key Club and she wants to learn ways to be a leader in her community.
Flores received her grant on Thursday, Feb. 23 at the awards ceremony at Crestview Middle School. Flores said that this scholarship will help her on her career path, becoming a fashion designer.
In the future, Flores said she wants to open up her own fashion business and doing the leadership program will help her on her way.
“I feel very proud of myself for winning this award,” Flores said. “This accomplishment will help me on what I want to do in the future.”
