Last year, seniors involved in student advisory and STUCO voted on an idea for their senior gift, which was approved by the Clarkson Valley officials. To fund it, the seniors put on multiple fundraisers.
On Tuesday, Aug. 23, they decided to put a sign on the brick wall by the pond that said Marquette. They started that morning, and by the time school was over, the sign was up.
“We all liked this idea because when people drive down Clarkson Road, they will see it, and know that this building is the school, Marquette,” Carl Hudson, freshman principal, said.
There were a few ideas that all the students and teachers debated on before the sign, such as new benches around the school, new monitors, and to crest in new flooring. When the students and advisors voted, the majority was for the pond wall sign. The sign is forty feet long, made of hard plastic, and is permanently studded to the brick wall.
“I just love the fact that now, when people don’t know what the building is, they can just look and see that it is Marquette,” Lexi Lewis, junior, said.
Hudson said last year’s seniors were very proud about this gift, and were all happy that it turned out like they wanted it to.
