Before taking the real test, MHS students can take a practice ACT on Saturday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students will test in the Flex Room
Renaissance is partnering up with Sylvan Learning Center to offer the practice ACT. The test costs $10, but 100 percent of the proceeds go towards supporting Renaissance activities since Sylvan is providing the test and proctors.
Renaissance recognizes students for their academic success, sponsoring events like Doughnut Mondays, Trivia Thursday, Student of the Day, Marvelous Mustang, Winners’ Circle, ACE Awards, Commit to Graduate and Quarterly Recognition Days.
“We have 20 students helping us with our mission,” Renaissance sponsor Erin Steep said. “We hope to continue to increase our membership in the coming years.”
After the exam, testers can view their scoring results on Thursday, April 7 at 5:45 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. in the Flex Room. Sylvan will offer personalized reports that point out trends in students’ performance and offer possible ways to improve in low-scoring areas.
“Students will also have the opportunity to review the test booklet alongside their results, which is a very unique feature of this program,” Steep said.
So far, 47 students have signed up to take the practice ACT. Steep said she hopes to offer it again next year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
“This is a great opportunity to practice taking the ACT at a very low cost to students,” Steep said. “The fast results, personalized score report and the chance to take home the test booklet make the deal that much better.”
Steep said a similar partnership with Sylvan has raised nearly $5,000 at LHS. On Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14, Renaissance will host a Fan-a-Mania sale in the Commons, with items from Nike, Reebok, and MLB on sale at 50 percent discounts.
