“Every year, teachers give money to needy families at MHS,” Senior Women President Culver Randolph, senior, said. “This year, Ms. Klingensmith came up with the idea of Wintergrams to get the students involved.”
Senior Women sold Wintergrams on stage at lunch from Monday, Nov. 29 through Friday, Dec. 3. Wintergrams are $1 square messages that come with a polar bear lollipop. Students can personally write letters to their friends or teachers.
Wintergrams will be delivered during second hour on Thursday, Dec. 16.
“We are hoping that because students are getting something out of their dollar, they will participate more,” Randolph said.
Senior Women Vice President Abbey Rosenblum, senior, said she hoped Wintergrams would raise school spirit during the holiday season.
“Wintergrams will benefit MHS by helping out needy families,” Rosenblum said.
Rosenblum also said Wintergrams should become an MHS annual tradition.
“It would be great if this program was expanded every year,” Rosenblum said.
Cheryl Klingensmith, Senior Women sponsor, said she has received positive feedback.
“However, I have been told we need to advertise more in the future so more people are aware,” Klingensmith said.
Klingensmith said she expects at least 100 orders, but considering this is Wintergrams’ first year, the number may be fewer.
Randolph remained optimistic about the project.
“A lot of my friends are buying them,” Randolph said. “Everybody should try and help their peers.”
