With more than 2,200 students, passing periods are crowded. To compensate for the mobbed halls, new stairwells have been added.
Most recently, a new set of stairs opened in the G-Wing to connect the first and second floors.
“The stairs serve a couple of purposes,” Principal Greg Mathison said. “In addition to reducing foot-traffic, it also provides a closer fire exit for classrooms in the hallway.”
Niamh Sillitto, freshman, has a locker in the first floor G-Wing and is pleased with the new addition.
“I get to classes faster when I use the new stairs. They’re a lot less crowded than the main ones too,” Sillitto said.
Emily Moser, freshman, is also a fan of the stairwell.
“It just looks a lot nicer than all the others,” Moser said. “The stairs are clean and there are huge windows that actually give the first floor some much needed light.”
